Diva Mountain Bike Ride

We had a good turnout this morning for our Diva mountain bike ride. There were 8 of us and we ALL wanted to go on, (at least) the Luge if not Old Camp, including Crystal, Di, Nancy, Sharon, Heidi, Barbara, Bernice and myself. What a perfect day to be riding up there – the weather was gorgeous and the views breathtaking! Unfortunately, Crystal had to leave us at the Luge as she had to be in work today, but the rest of us carried on up to Old Camp. There was some great camaraderie and it was a real pleasure riding with you today.

My husband Stu, volunteered to follow us and take some pictures which I will share with you.

Todd Wells speaks at the Team Meeting

Todd Wells is a professional bicycle racer specializing in cyclo-cross and mountain bike racing from the United States. Todd Resides in Durango, Co.
This solid all-around rider began his cycling career as a BMX rider at the age of five, but switched to mountain biking and had aspirations of becoming a world-class gravity racer. Eventually he discovered his niche as an endurance athlete and is also one of the top riders on the U.S. cyclo-cross circuit, having won a pair of elite men's national titles in 2001 and 2005. In 2008, Wells will again be one of the top U.S. performers on the international mountain bike circuit as he hopes to return to the Games and improve upon his 2004 result.
On January 29th, 2009 Todd Wells came to the team Velosport/Sho-Air’s first meeting of the year. He talked about his experience cycling, his goals and how he manages his training schedule. Todd was nothing short of inspirational!

A Leisure ride through Whiting...

Early Wednesday morning Joe sent a text to select entries in his cell phone. It said, " 3:15pm Wahoo's if you want to hit the dirt in Whiting." 4 Rock N' Road patrons & 1 shop employee (Derek) showed up. Whiting was in great condition yesterday, smooth trails all the way. Kim (Pictured below) made it up the hill with a super big smile on her face! Even while fighting a cold, Derek who usually ends the ride with a bright red face. Was a bit pale but gave his all to the group.

Good job Joe, thanks for the pictures!

Womens Mountain Ride on Saturday

DIVA RIDE (info from Crystal)

Hello Ladies!

We have something special planned this month- a mountain bike ride!

Here's the deal: We will have two rides leaving at the same time, like usual. There will be one that is a beginner to intermediate ride and one that is an intermediate to advanced ride.

Sat., Jan 31st Meet at 7:30 a.m. and plan to ride by 7:45 a.m. Both rides will meet at the McDonald's parking lot across from Whiting Ranch (On Portola Pkwy.- email me for further specificity).Beginner/Intermediate Group: Whiting Ranch (approx. 6 mi.; 1-1.5 hr. depending)
OK ladies... When I say "beginner," I need to convey that this is NOT a ride for women mountain biking for their first time ever...Whiting Ranch though short, does have roots, rocks and one longer climb in it. Please be advised that this ride will be challenging for women just starting to ride, though we would love to see you come out with us. I would say this ride will be perfect for women who have been riding for at least a few months or longer. We will go at the pace of the group, and it that regard, it will be beginner to intermediate

Check out Kim, sporting her RNR Diva jersey!

See ya out there in the dirt =0)

Another maddening Moonlight ride

They ride that met at Cooks on Sunday... was mainly staff from Rock N' Road. But the most intriguing part was how many of them (being seasoned riders) showed up with no lights. I guess the full moon really does make a difference. Glad you guys had fun & no one pedaled into any solid object.... LOL!The Moonlight Madness ride leaves from Cooks Corner at 8:30pm on the day of the full moonAre you ready for the challenge?Call Derek at Irvine for further details: (949)733-2453

New Sho Air-Specialized Pro/Am MTB Team for 2009

Velonews says, "Specialized has teamed with Sho Air International, a Huntington Beach, California-based shipping company to sponsor the California-based Sho Air-Specialized mountain bike team."
"Tedro started the Sho Air club racing team in 2005 with four members and doubled his roster a year later. In 2006 he partnered with SoCal-based Rock and Road Cyclery — a major Specialized dealer — and launched an amateur-elite squad. In 2007 Sho Air-Rock and Road won the California State team title and upped its membership to 20. In 2008 the squad extended sponsorship to 195 elite and amateur riders."
Look at us, once only a small local OC team. Started with just a few members here & there. Now 400+ members & an elite team that's getting write ups in a major cycling publication.
Who's your cycling team now!
