Rock N' Road wants you to... Donate that old bike

Rock N' Road Bike Shops and Team Sho-Air/VeloSport are hosting a bicycle donation day for the Hans Rey Wheels4Life Charity.

The donation day will take place on Saturday April 11th. If you wish to donate a bicycle to the Wheels4Life charity, please bring it to your local Rock n Road bike shop during normal business hours on Saturday April 11th.

Please be sure the bicycle is in good working order. If you are not sure of the bicycles condition, the Rock n Road repair shop can take a look at it and give you a cost estimate for any necessary repairs. The Rock n Road Laguna Niguel shop will be the focus of the donation day and Hans Rey will be present to visit and perhaps lead a fun MTB ride at Aliso/Woods Wilderness Park at 10AM.

Wheels4Life is a non-profit organization that provides bicycles for people in developing countries in need of transportation. Wheels4life was founded by extreme biking legend and former Mountain Bike World Champion Hans Rey.

Specialized Tarmac Expert

Do you see what cycling news had to say about the Tarmac Expert? Here is a taste…

Just as the law of diminishing returns predicts, the Specialized Tarmac Expert Compact comes admirably close to the top-end SL2's performance at a fraction of the cost. In fact, even Specialized confirmed our impressions when we wrapped up testing: in-house bottom bracket and torsional stiffness test figures are both off by just 6 percent - something many riders might not even notice.
The SL2 is obviously still a noticeably higher-performing package overall but if value ranks especially high on your list of priorities and you can live with the Tarmac Expert Compact's extra mass and modestly tempered edge, step right up.

Location: TBA-Most likely Laguna Niguel
RSVP: By Friday, March 13
Intermediate/ Advanced Mountain Bike Clinic Date: Tuesday, March 31
Time: 9:00-12:00
Cost: $15
Location: TBA
RSVP: By Monday, March 16

Clinic Descriptions: The Beginner clinic will cover bike basics like: Shifting, Proper Bike Setup, Proper Fork Setup, Clipless Pedals and as many Overlap items as we can get through.

Overlap: Tire Selection and Pressure, Body Position and Movement on the Bike, Braking, Weighting/Leaning Bike, Cornering, Cone Work, Climbing, Descending, Front Wheel and Rear Wheel lift and Bunny Hopping.

The Advanced Clinic will cover the Overlap items plus:
Switchback Techniques, Bunny Hopping, Steep Downhills and Uphills, will be more on the trail since we should be able to climb up and do repeats more easily.

Both are XC mountain bike clinics, not free-ride or downhill. I won't push the comfort level at either clinic, this is about learning and practicing the skills which are needed at any level of XC racing. These skills would be the basics only for someone getting into free-ride or downhill.Below are some recent articles about Krista! Check her out! We have heard that her clinics are awesome and a real treat.

Maple Sugar Moon

What ya doing tonight? Watching American Idol? Come on, you can miss one episode. Simon & Paula I promise are not going to duke it out on this one. Even if they did, it's not like you wouldn't be about to check it out on you tube. And don't give me any lip about Lost either, it's a repeat & you probably have that season on DVD.
Tonight is the Moonlight ride through the Luge. So get off the couch & enjoy a relaxing ride tonight.
Eric & Derek from the Irvine store will be leading it out.
Be at Cook's Corner at 8:30pm. I suggest you bring a light or you can chance it & truly ride by the moonlight.
See you out there!

Fantastic day for a Demo

The weather was dry & warm, perfect for riding.

Garth from Specialized was there with the demo truck. All the top of the line Specialized mountain & road bikes were there for everyone to take out & ride

The first ride of the day left the parking lot a bit after 9am. The group is pictured here, all geared up for a "warm" ride through Shady Canyon. When the group got back Motor Tabs & H2O Overdrive were there to give everyone a cool drink. There was even a group of nice ladies from Dr.Brunell Chiropractic giving shoulder rubs for the riders.

Shortly after the roadies came back the mountain group left for their ride through Peter’s canyon. Everyone had a great time & I think I can safely say all those involved welcomed the breakfast & lunch that we had for them.

Thank you to everyone who came out & rode.
